Kannalab

We work at the intersection of agroecology, material experimentation, and rural development, with a focus on building from farm to fibre value chains in marginal rural regions. In collaboration with Textilné centrum in Košice we explore hemp as an agroecological crop and material resource, connecting cultivation under challenging conditions with local processing, early-stage material experimentation, and design applications. KannaLab operates through applied experimentation: small-scale pilots, collaborative research activities, and concept validation in real-world contexts. We act as a connector between farmers, designers, researchers, and public actors, translating between local practice and European innovation frameworks. Based near Poloniny National Park in Eastern Slovakia, our work is grounded in a region where biodiversity, remoteness, and structural challenges coexist making it a relevant testbed for resilient, place-based innovation models.
