Karmasue
KarmaSue received its 501(c) 3 nonprofit status in January, 2016 and was founded in 2015 by Britton Slagle as she worked on her thesis for a Master of Nonprofit Management. She researched the needs and gaps of services for families after enduring personal experiences with companion animal cancer. KarmaSue’s mission is to provide education, counseling, and financial support to Coloradan families that have companion animals living with cancer in an effort to honor the human-animal connection. KarmaSue adopted the ASPCA’s definition of companion animal including, but not limited to, dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, ferrets, birds, guinea pigs, and domestic-bred farm animals. The organization has three unique programs including education, grief and compassion fatigue counseling, and financial support for veterinary costs related to a cancer diagnosis and associated treatment. KarmaSue continuously analyzes and updates its programs to ensure it is attentive to current needs of Coloradoan families enduring companion animal cancer.
