Founded in 2009, Kaufmann Mercantile is the creation of Sebastian Kaufmann, a German expat with a great appreciation for design, art, cooking, science, and the outdoors. Kaufmann Mercantile chooses as well as designs furniture and homewares that are manufactured with equal importance given to functionality, durability and aesthetics. Materials should be chosen for their longevity. Design should marry both function and beauty. Most of our products are handmade, and we never sell cheaply made, mass-produced versions. We encourage still-functioning heirlooms, not fodder for landfills. We put a lot of thought and research into everything we sell.
