Kauhale Healing

For the Kānaka Maoli of old Hawaii, the idea of ‘home’ was not defined by the singular hale (‘building’, ‘house’), but rather kauhale, the group of houses and buildings that comprised community. In this way, Kauhale Healing is a vision, an intention, a mission born from the universal suffering caused by isolation and loneliness that goes against the fabric of what it means to be human. When experienced alone, sadness turns to depression, fear turns to anxiety, grief becomes hopelessness - but when experienced together, these feelings are simply normal aspects of the human experience and can actually bring us closer to one another. Our mission, then, is to honor our fundamental human need for connection and belonging, and to restore our sense of ‘home’ as part of something bigger than ourselves.
