Our mission is to use the power of media to support Afghan immigrants in Sacramento by increasing their knowledge and understanding of the local community and to encourage them to more fully participate in society. Kabul to Sacramento is also a bridge between the Afghan community and government in order to facilitate communication and information on local and national levels. Background Naweed Yousufi spent 14 years working with the US Army in Afghanistan. He spent several of those years as an embedded freelance journalist and civil society activist. Like many other Afghans, he came to Sacramento as a Special Immigrant Visa holder (SIV) in 2017. He soon recognized the need that the large, and still growing, Afghan community in Sacramento had for a source of information and education on how to navigate life in their new home. In June 2020, he independently launched a pilot program, the Dari language show, Kabul to Sacramento, via Facebook. Since that time, Naweed has posted dozens of episodes, interviews, and updates with no budget or funding. It is important to Naweed that the show remains free and openly accessible to the public.
