Few things make me happier than helping families in need. I have focused on this for the last 20 plus years. I am always moved by the stories of families who struggle to put food on the table and pay their rent. I would often provide a complete thanksgiving dinner followed by a holiday celebration with gifts and food that they would never experience otherwise. Simple things like ensuring everyone in the family had a winter coat, shoes and a few pieces of clothes were always part of the gift. However, there are already many organizations out there that can provide support for those families. What I learned over the last several years is that there are families who in addition to not being able to put food on the table and pay the rent, also have a child with cancer or other life-threatening condition. Oftentimes, a parent must quit work to care of an ailing child which puts them in an even more devastating situation. I have personally helped more than a dozen families over the last few years and have had friends and family also help, but wanted to do more. So here is my more…. I started Keeping Hope Alive Virginia in order to be able to solicit financial support for these families. Our mission is simple… Keeping Hope Alive VA’s mission is to enrich the lives of children diagnosed with cancer and other life-threatening conditions and their families in the Northern Virginia area through the collection and distribution of financial support, necessities and gifts.
