Come and explore the unique scenery of the southern area of Karelia biosphere area; a rare swamp type with rich bird life (Kesonsuo), the silence of this wilderness realm, the beauty of the lake Koitere and one of its biggest islands called Lammassaari. All this is connected with the river Koitajoki, which spans from Möhkö village next to Russian border, ending up to Koitere, or Joensuu. This is the place where the Finnish nature showcases its diversity. Along the waterway, you'll pass ever-changing nature scenes ranging from pine-clad esker ridges formed by the ice age, to bald swamp sections. In the east there is Petkeljärvi National Park and north of Koitere there is Patvinsuon National Park. Here in Ilomantsi, in the most eastern corner in Finland in the EU, we offer outdoor activity services, rent cottages and offer peat treatments. The peat sauna is part of our Finnish “peat culture”. We rent kayaks, indian canoes and SUP boards, and offer shorter and longer ready paddling packages in Koitajoki, Koitere and smaller lakes there in between. Koitajoki is an easy river to paddle but still provides exciting moments when passing the easy rapids. All the waters are also perfect for fishing. In these surroundings there are also shorter and longer hiking trails, which are also suitable for biking. Currently we have two eco-cottages, which are renovated and upgraded during 2017 and 2018.
