Kenya’s coastal communities have long depended on the ocean for food, livelihood, and cultural identity. However, rising marine pollution, overfishing, climate change, and loss of marine biodiversity threaten both the ocean and the people who rely on it. Despite these challenges, many local champions, fishers, youth, artists, and scientists are actively working to protect the ocean. Their voices, however, are often underrepresented in national and global narratives. At Ocean Life Kenya, we are a platform and movement that documents, celebrates, and supports these Ocean Guardians by empowering them through storytelling, education, and sustainable enterprise.
