Land To Learn

Land to Learn cultivates connection to food, land, and community through hands-on, garden-based education that nourishes health, ecological awareness, and collective well-being. We envision children growing up with deep respect for the land and all living things, nourished by nutritious food and inspired to make joyful, culturally-grounded choices. Through inclusive programs we cultivate resilience, curiosity, and equity while planting seeds for stronger local food systems rooted in community, justice, and care for the earth. SproutEd, our flagship program, brings garden-based education to K-3rd grade students in public schools in Kingston, Newburgh and Beacon, NY. We build school food gardens and teach monthly lessons integrating gardening, nutrition, cooking, plant science, and environmental stewardship. Our multi-year curriculum is experiential and engaging, helping students develop academic and social-emotional skills through planting, harvesting, preparing snacks, and exploring their connection to food and nature. We extend our impact through Summer Sprouts camp in Beacon, Garden Chef Series at The Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh, and SproutEd Summer with Kingston City Schools, giving children ages 6-11 additional opportunities to explore gardening and wellness. Our Radicle Roots teen program provides paid summer employment to youth ages 14-19 in Beacon and Newburgh. Apprentices maintain gardens, assist with programming, and develop skills in food systems and community engagement. Through our Dig Internship, we partner with colleges including Vassar to provide future educators hands-on experience with garden-based learning. Our ToolShed initiative offers resources, professional development, and consulting to schools implementing garden programs, while Family Table Cooking Workshops engage broader audiences. Together, these programs form a robust ecosystem supporting healthier, more connected, resilient communities.
