Our organization assists local law enforcement in the United States with uploading latent fingerprints into national databases. The goal is to solve cold cases. Specifically those involving rape, child abduction, and murder. Most people think that fingerprints are automatically uploaded into the FBI database when a crime occurs. However, this takes time and workforce that many jurisdictions do not have. Every year there are thousands of latent fingerprints that are filed in a cabinet somewhere; but, not uploaded into the federal database. This does not even consider the millions of backlogged cold cases stored away in local, regional, and state agencies across the country. Solving these cases not only provides justice and closure for these families; but, it can actually take criminals off the street before they can commit additional crimes.
