First thing to note is the two years requirement for presenting a petition for divorce. However, there is no complete bar to divorce within the first two years of marriage. The parties are allowed to petition provided that the court satisfies itself that there is exceptional circumstances or hardship suffered. Inflicting physical harm and violence and causing mental breakdown to one party may qualify as exceptional circumstances or hardship suffered. Depending on the circumstances, the parties may also be qualified for annulment or decree of nullity.
