Leipzig International School

Established in 1992, Leipzig International School is a charitable organization which runs a school with currently 950 children from over 70 countries, and 190 teaching and administrative staff. The school has grown and developed significantly, now operates at two locations: the Leipzig International Kindergarten and the Primary/Secondary School campus. The legal form of the school is a charitable limited company whose shares are owned by a charitable foundation. Those who enter Leipzig International School (LIS) in Schleußig will be greeted by a variety of children's voices. If you listen carefully, you notice that in addition to English, the language of instruction, many other languages are present. 650 students from more than 70 nations enliven the school building in Könneritzstraße. The school is important to companies and institutions who bring international workers and specialists to Leipzig. German students also attend Leipzig International School and benefit from the intercultural learning environment and the global curriculum. With the International Baccalaureate – a universally accepted university entrance qualification - LIS graduates are ideally equipped for a cosmopolitan and versatile life. LIS is a state-recognized comprehensive school based in the districts of Schleußig (LIS) and Plagwitz (LIK). The children's day care centre offers a full-day programme (07:00-18:00) for children from 1 to 6 years with an integrated pre-school. To enter primary school, which covers the classes 1-5, it is not necessary already to speak good English, since an individually coordinated language support programme is offered. The educational concept with small classes enables optimal development of children’s social intellectual and creative potential. A school change between Leipzig International School and elementary or middle school or a state high school is possible not only in the earlier school years, but also later, for example after a year abroad.
