Lime House Yoga

Why we do what we do and want to share it with you! We are situated a short walk from the Holywell beach on the north coast of Cornwall. Having spent the last couple of years renovating the house and studio we have tried to create a space that is calming and inspiring. The original house is approximately 250 years old, made from cob (mud, straw and pretty much anything else they could get their hands on!), and over the years it’s been added to with all manner of building materials (We counted seven different materials, cob, stone, block, brick, slate, timber and concrete) and extended, not always sympathetically with the character of the building! We’ve tried to restore as much original charm back to the property while upgrading the house to modern building specifications. We stripped out the entire insides of the house, digging down two feet into the ground to put in a damp proof membrane, insulation and underfloor heating throughout. The outside render was stripped back to cob and then we effectively ‘wrapped’ the house in four inches of hemp and lime mixture to act as a quilt around the house. Then on top of this we added another inch of lime render to the building. That was the inspiration behind the name of the studio, Lime House Studio. The heating for the building is provided by a large log boiler. We manage our own woodlands and harvest the trees to providing logs which then provide us with heating and hot water. We also have solar thermal providing hot water in the warmer months. Our plans for the future are to come off grid by creating our own electricity and digging a bore hole for our water. We have seven acres of land around us and a stable block that will be converted into accommodation.
