Linear Energy Limited

Linear Energy Limited is a company that is revolutionising the way in which wind turbines work. It is developing "GEMINI", a linear/rotational generator, that removes the need for complex gears and drive trains. Although wind turbines have advanced considerably over the past decade gears and drive trains still fail resulting in downtime and significant repair and maintenance costs. Linear Energy's innovation is elegant; breaks with convention and could revolutionise the wind power industry. Linear Energy is partnering with the Engineering Department of Durham University and the Material Processing Institute (MPI) formerly the R&D arm of Tata Steel. They provide technical expertise and relationships with strategic industrial players. Although wind is a free gift of nature it could be exploited ever more to provide the world with much needed non carbon energy. We have built a prototype which is currently being tested.
