WEARABLE ART: Gemstones, carvings, lapidary work, artifacts & antiques sourced from the following countries: Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tibet, India, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Bali, Indonesia, Russia, China, Japan, England and the U.S.A. There is much information to learn about a people from the transformation of their local materials and accompanying crafts. The lapidary art form, therefore, is as interwoven in the fabric of human history, spirituality, myth and culture as all of the other arts. Their art is imbued with their unique psychology, stories, ingenuity and perspectives. Each sculpture or artifact I have acquired is a little piece of their creators left behind as gifts to us all. When I hold these antiques I feel connected to the many anonymous artisans that produce these awe-inspiring pieces, many of which were probably created simply as a means of livelihood. The transformation of their own local materials, gemstones, bones and metals, into breathtaking works of art rivals anything that the ‘West’ has historically claimed as high art. Therefore, I am been moved to create wearable art with this same respect and awe of a world that I, as a ‘westerner’, was not aware existed. With each stone or antique I discover and each piece I create, I am continuously thrust into exciting new worlds. My wish is for you to also feel the weight of human history as you wear my creations and to have the same human connection to these nameless ancient artisans as I do.
