Living Vital

Living Vital offers a safe, welcoming space in nature at Stanmer Organics, Brighton, where anyone can come to learn about organic food growing, permaculture principles, basic woodwork, nutrition and cooking. We are building a community connecting local people with refugees and migrants and growing produce for food banks. We offer people the chance to deepen their connection with their bodies, the natural world and each other. Our flagship project is Common Ground, which invites refugees and asylum seekers to the garden alongside volunteers, aiming to improve mental health, reduce food poverty, build community cohesion and create a welcoming space facilitating the sharing of skills, experiences and stories across cultural, linguistic & social barriers. We donate the produce we grow together to the Voices in Exile refugee food bank, feeding 120 refugees and asylum seekers and combating food poverty. We bring people from all walks of life together to grow organic food in a way that is sustainable and supportive of the local ecosystem. We do this by applying the principles of permanent agriculture (permaculture). Permaculture is guided by the ethics of people care, earth care and a fair share for all beings.
