Computational Methods in Geomechanics Laboratory (LMCG) – UFPE Since 2003, the LMCG has been a group of excellence in applied research and the development of computational solutions in Geomechanics. The laboratory is part of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and is housed within LITPEG — UFPE's Research Institute for Oil and Natural Gas. LITPEG was established to foster collaboration between academia and industry, driving technological innovation, human resource training, and advancements across the production chain of the oil, gas, biofuels, and renewable energy sectors. The group plays a significant role in advancing Petroleum, Environmental, and Natural Resources Engineering through research projects, specialized consulting, and industry partnerships. Its main focus is the numerical modeling of complex phenomena in porous media — such as soils and rocks — involving thermal, hydraulic, mechanical, and geochemical processes. The LMCG develops in-house finite element software capable of simulating highly coupled scenarios, including the behavior of salt rocks at great depths and environmental risks associated with resource extraction. With a strong academic foundation, the LMCG also stands out for training highly qualified researchers, developing new technologies, and pursuing sustainable solutions to address the challenges of modern geotechnical and energy engineering in Brazil.
