Local Routes Foundation

Local Routes Foundation is a California nonprofit corporation, formally established in 2016. Our goal is activating arts, culture, economic development and revitalization through grassroots organizing. We serve as an umbrella arts organization in several communities including Pittsburg, where we support collaborative community activities and network with every other arts organization operating in the area. We support arts as an end in itself, and realize that a vibrant community rich with events and activities also draws tourists and economic development. Our international programs include Geotourism Indonesia and Karakter, both social enterprises that provide free technical training for girls and under-served populations. Participants gain skills that empower them to participate in the "Creative Economy", the slice of the economy that includes both the work of people who create Hollywood blockbusters and the software you use on your mobile phone everyday. Local Routes Foundation of California was founded by Sheila Smith and Alex Rollin.
