Loy Yang B
Loy Yang B Power Station is an essential baseload brown coal fired (lignite) power generator located 160km east of Melbourne, Victoria in the Latrobe Valley. The station provides input to the national electricity market (NEM). Loy Yang B has a maximum generating capacity of 1200MW. It is the third largest thermal power station in Victoria accounting for approximately 20% of Victoria’s electricity requirements. Loy Yang B is supplied with coal from the adjacent Loy Yang A open cut mine. It was commissioned between 1993 and 1996 and has an estimated technical life to 2047 or later.
