Mae B. Real Estate Development

Mae B. Real Estate Development (Mae B. RED) was founded in 2023. It is designed to marry principles and practices of community development with those of economic development to produce broader capital and human investment in under-capitalized neighborhoods. Race, ethnicity and socioeconomic status are primary determinants when developers, investors, brokers and lenders consider potential investments in communities across the country. This has resulted in stagnant, unimaginative built environments that stymie access to resources and betray the dynamism of minority and low-income neighborhoods. Mae B. RED will partner with neighborhoods, public and private entities committed to green building and variable affordability, to develop housing and commercial spaces throughout the state of Texas. The company will operate almost as a laboratory for new development ideas and concepts in neighborhoods largely ignored by traditional developers with the intention of unlocking the potential of these neighborhoods. The founder of Mae B. RED, Karen Brooks-Crosby, has a diverse professional real estate background that includes institutional equity investment, real estate banking and 25 years in community development.
