Magma Journal

Magma is an artistic platform founded by Paul Olivennes in 2022, bringing together visual artists, photographers, writers, filmmakers, sculptors, architects, and designers from around the world in an annual and unique publication. Designed as a forum for artistic expression, offering original works and new formats each year, Magma also collaborates with institutions and artists to create partnerships, talks, performances, exhibitions, and documentaries. Bridging generations and mediums, the first issue featured original contributions from Hans Ulrich Obrist, Alaa Al Aswany, Tim Breuer, Sophie Calle, Erri De Luca, Lucas Arruda, René Char, Luigi Ghirri, Frida Orupabo, Andra Ursuța, and Agnès Varda. In 2024, Magma published a special edition of surrealist inquiries in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, marking the centenary of surrealism. This edition included original contributions from 150 artists, among them Patti Smith, Georg Baselitz, Wolfgang Tillmans, Elizabeth Peyton, Anne Imhof, Hélène Delprat, Leos Carax, Thomas Bangalter, Marina Abramović, Ed Ruscha, Jacques Audiard, Étienne Daho, Barbara Chase-Riboud, William Kentridge, Simone Fattal, Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, Paul McCarthy, Annette Messager, Kiki Smith, and Orhan Pamuk. Magma is available worldwide (35+ countries) in a bilingual (French & English) edition in quality bookstores and newsstands as well as in museum shops galleries – Collection Pinault, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Palais de Tokyo, Musée du Jeu de Paume, Villa Carmignac, Fondation Luma, Museum Van Hedendaagse Kunst, MoMA –, internationally stores and a selection of hotels in Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Bruxelles, London, Milan, Madrid, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Dubai.
