La Maison des Sœurs Macarons is the oldest artisanal macaron confectionery in Nancy, a stone's throw from the majestic Place Stanislas. Founded in 1793, it is the sole holder of the true secret of the authentic Sœurs Macarons recipe, the origin of the Macaron de Nancy. For over 220 years, the Maison des Sœurs Macarons has jealously kept the secret of the authentic Macaron de Nancy, a recipe handed down from generation to generation. Here you'll find the specialities that are the pride of Nancy and Lorraine, based on Bergamot (a Protected Geographical Indication since 1996) and Mirabelle, as well as our chocolates and fruit jellies, homemade with high-quality ingredients. A little history. In 1624, Catherine de Lorraine, Catherine de Médicis' granddaughter, founded the Dames de la Charité monastery in Nancy. The nuns made a round cake from almonds, sugar and egg whites. The recipe was kept secret and passed on over the years among the lay sisters of the Dames du Saint Sacrement convent. On April 5, 1792, the decree abolishing religious congregations put two sisters of the community, Elisabeth Morlot and Marguerite-Suzanne Gaillot, out on the street. The community doctor, Docteur GORMAND, took them in at 10 rue de la Hache in Nancy. In gratitude, the two sisters took over the production of macarons, which they offered for sale. They became known as “Les Sœurs Macarons”. The Sœurs Macarons business and secret were then passed on to a niece of Françoise MORLOT (sister of Marie Elisabeth Morlot): Anne MARCHAL épouse MULLER, then from generation to generation to 3 different families, and since 1991 to the GENOT family. In 1951, the sole store moved to 21 rue Gambetta, and the city of Nancy honored the Macaron Sisters by naming the part of rue de la Hache where the production of the Véritable Macaron de Nancy began.
