WHY MAIYUN? Maiyun is an internationally focused non-profit business created to provide educational scholarships for young war-affected refugees (and young students in countries where CAMH specialists are urgently needed), enabling them to become experts in the field of Child & Adolescent Mental Health. We aim to provide young people with the professional skills (in accordance with international best practice) that will enhance their own lives, the lives of their families/communities and the lives of other war-affected children. Do you remember Greta Thunberg demanding, “No more blah, blah, blah”? A young person’s frustration at insufficient action on climate change, frustration at the honeyed words that bombard us every day. Maiyun’s focus is not on the environmental and ecological implications of warfare (when did you hear these discussed?), but on the human cost - the price paid by children and young people. Do you care? You should. Not your children? They might be your children one day. Step away from the wars and conflicts that dominate today’s headlines and reflect for a moment on this statement: “Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified is not a crime”. WE MIND DO YOU? Where wars cannot be prevented, investment is needed in the futures of war-affected children. Now is the time to act. Now is the time for change. Children have not started the wars of today, but they are the ones who will start (or stop) the wars of tomorrow. Business as usual is no longer an option.
