Photographer and film director JONATHAN MANNION moved to NEW YORK CITY from his native Ohio in 1993 to accept a position assisting iconic photographer and documentarian, RICHARD AVEDON. Working at the studio of one of the greatest portrait photographers of the past century provided an experience that not only influenced Mannion's approach to photography but also instilled in him the importance of the PHOTOGRAPHER'S RELATIONSHIP TO HIS SUBJECT. The broad range of personalities revealed by his lens includes OLYMPIC ATHLETES, NBA PLAYERS, FASHION ICONS and a variety of HOLLYWOOD ACTORS AND COMEDIANS. Mannion's style and method have made him the go-to photographer for influential celebrities like TYRA BANKS and sports heroes like LANCE ARMSTRONG. His editorial and advertising collaborations include prominent brands such as REEBOK, BUSHMILLS WHISKEY, THE FADER MAGAZINE, LEICA, STUSSY, MTV and MOUNTIAN DEW. Exhibitions of his work have been held at galleries and museums across the globe including the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME, ART BASEL MIAMI, New York's MILK GALLERY, the PROUD GALLERY in London, Washington D.C.'s prestigious GOVINDA GALLERY and GRAMMY MUSEUM in Los Angeles.
