Manx Blind Welfare Society

The Manx Blind Welfare Society has looked after the interests of people with serious sight loss on the Isle of Man since 1936. Over the years the work of the Society has changed and grown considerably to keep pace with the needs and aspirations of the people that we support. We believe in recognising each person as an individual. Housed within Corrin Court there is a talking book library, a recording studio producing a weekly news service, computer training room, specialist equipment room and a spacious dining and social room. Everyone receives a quarterly newsletter, Birthday and Christmas cards. We also provide home and hospital visits and additional social events off premises throughout the year. Apart from a subsidised charge for lunches and afternoon teas our services are all provided free. Accommodated within our premises our RNIB colleagues are contracted by the DHSS to provide statutory services for people with visual impairment. Rehabilitation and Eye Clinic Liaison Services are available at Nobles Hospital. They also run a ‘shop’ type resource centre where in addition to information they stock a wide range of specialist items that can help with everyday living. We work closely together to provide as seamless a service as possible, the focus being on the person's needs rather than who is to provide it. Low Vision clinics managed by RNIB are also housed within Corrin Court. They can be contacted on 677626. Whilst we work closely with all organisations within the Isle of Man Sight Impairment Service we are financially independent of government, relying entirely upon fundraising, donations and legacies for our services. Formality is kept to an absolute minimum and importance placed upon a speedy resolution to problems or matters of concern for anyone whose life is affected by serious sight loss.
