Marea Art Project

Marea is an international research and artist residency program launched in 2021 on the Amalfi Coast, based on an idea by art historian Imma Tralli and cultural manager Roberto Pontecorvo. It was conceived in collaboration with Stefano Collicelli Cagol, Director General of the Luigi Pecci Centre for Contemporary Art in Prato, and Carol LeWitt, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Yale University Art Gallery. One of the project's objectives is to revive the experience of artists who were inspired by the territory between Naples and the Amalfi Coast during the 20th century, creating connections with the contemporary independent feminist and queer art scene. Starting from the Amalfi Coast, Marea Art Project aims to broaden perspectives on the area so that, from a place of temporary enjoyment, it can return to being a dynamic space for contemporary artistic creation, overlooking the Mediterranean. In 2025, Marea Art Project was listed among the best Italian artist residencies at Art Basel and among the best independent spaces at the Flash Art Italia Awards.
