While employed as a firefighter at the New York City Fire Department, Alan was unexpectedly and severely injured on the job. It was during this ordeal that he found himself on the claimant's side of the mediation table. After years of extensive surgeries, physical therapy, and treatments, Alan was deemed not physically able to continue the grueling work of a firefighter, and was subsequently forced into early retirement. It was during this time he enrolled in St. John's University School of Law. Since earning his Juris Doctorate, Alan has practiced as a defense attorney and claimant's attorney. He is a former mediator for the Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation. It is this experience, on all sides of the table, which gives Alan the unique perspective of understanding and intimately knowing the pressures heaped on all parties involved in the claims process.
