The MED-GEM Network — Funded by the European Union and implemented by GIZ International Services The MED-GEM Network (Mediterranean Green Electrons & Molecules Network) is a regional project designed to accelerate the clean energy transition in the Southern Neighbourhood by building bridges between public institutions, the private sector, and civil society. Its core objective is to create and operate a Mediterranean platform that fosters dialogue, technical exchange, and cooperation among key energy stakeholders, from policy makers to innovators, to enable the growth of the Green Electrons and Green Molecules (GEM) industry across the region. Through its activities, the MED-GEM Network promotes sustainable energy pathways, supports national and regional policy reforms, and enhances public awareness on the urgent need for climate action and decarbonisation. Our mission: To help partner countries strengthen their policy, regulatory, financial and industrial ecosystems, and to provide them with the tools and expertise needed to overcome socio-economic and climate challenges while ensuring a just, inclusive and locally anchored transition. Key areas of work include: • Supporting policy reforms to boost renewable hydrogen generation; • Assessing the potential for renewable and low-carbon gas production (hydrogen, bio-gas, bio-methane, synthetic methane); • Identifying market barriers and proposing tailored solutions to unlock public and private investments; • Promoting innovative financing mechanisms for pilot and demonstration projects; • Strengthening capacities through training, workshops and knowledge exchange; • Raising awareness among citizens and youth on the opportunities of the green transition.
