Meg Den Hartog

I am a realistic painter, love to paint portraits, animals and still lifes. I like the crinkles of silk, love lace and that’s why I paint lots of fabric: dresses, wedding dresses and handkerchiefs for example. I also love gold leaf and work mostly with 22-23,75 krt. gold. In addition to that I add diamond powder to some of my paintings, which gives a beautiful glistening. I started making my own paint from lapis-lazuli pigment: the most beautiful blue colour. I work with acrylic paint and use the techniques of the old masters: layer over layer, to get much depth in the painting. Another technique is to draw with pencil, and then carry on with watery acrylic paint, to get a very transparent effect.
