Meher - The Troupe

Founded in 2001, Meher The Troupe (MTT) is a nonprofit performing arts organization led by a group of internationally renowned puppeteers and passionate artists. It was formed in the loving memory of Ms. Meher Contractor, the lady who brought Indian Puppetry to the international platform. We exist to enhance the art of puppetry by meaningfully present a wide variety of the most significant as well as almost extinct art forms of puppetry to the people. We are committed to engaging puppetry in experiments, entertainment, education, cultural exchange, and inclusive social development. Since more than three decades, members of this organization have committed themselves to the art of puppetry by experimenting, innovating and performing at local, national and international levels. We also use puppetry in the field of social welfare, education, awareness, development, etc. Education has remained focal point in many of our puppet shows and we have experienced the fondness with which children have learned the message of each story we told through puppets. Over the span of more than a decade, we got a chance of working with various state government schools, central government schools, private schools, academicians, scholars and education reformists. We have done thousands of puppet shows/activities focusing on Health & Hygiene in Slums, Sanitation Awareness campaign in district of Dangs, Child Labor Alertness & Theft Reduction, historical narratives on lives of Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda, Environment Awareness campaigns, Children’s Literacy Awareness campaigns, etc. Our work and our artists are internationally renowned and have performed in more than 11 countries for various activities related to the art of puppetry.
