Melanos

Cosmetics product line based on natural melanin: sunscreen, self-tan, hair dye and anti-aging. Conducting research in the field of Rx drugs for vitiligo. Melanin is an effective absorbent of the light – it is able to dissipate over 99.9% of absorbed UV radiation. Because of this property, functionally, melanin serves as protection against UV radiation and protect skin cells from UVA, UVB radiation damage – the main cause of skin cancer. Strong antioxidants effects of melanin and free radical scavenging properties are well researched and documented. Moreover, melanin blocks UV radiation, and UV exposure is responsible for 80% of visible facial aging signs. In humans, melanin density is the primary determinant of skin and hair color. Thanks to increased amount of melanin in the body, it is possible to achieve healthy natural tan – even in winter. Melanos is a spin-off from Jagiellonian University in Cracow. The research group at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow under the guidance of Marcin Majka, PhD, DSc conducted a successful experimentation of melanin production with the usage of differentiated cells. The invention resulted in creation of Melanos, which has been already granted with the Polish patent for production of natural melanin; EU and US patents pending approval.
