Mepkin Abbey
Mepkin Abbey is a community of Trappist monks established in 1949 on the historic Mepkin plantation on the banks of the Cooper River just outside Charleston, South Carolina. The monks offer a quiet place of contemplation to those seeking a spiritual retreat on a donation-only basis. The beautiful grounds of the Abbey attract thousands of visitors per year. The monks make a living by growing oyster mushrooms, which they sell both on the grounds and online, at shop.mepkinabbey.org.
