Merchant Energy is a private, independent developer and long-term owner of renewable energy and battery storage projects in Southern Africa. Based in Cape Town, our lean, expert team manages the entire project lifecycle — from origination and development through to capital structuring, construction oversight, and asset management. We currently have over 5 GW of projects under development, with a particular focus on solar PV, wind, and grid-scale storage. Our equity ownership model ensures long-term alignment with investors, communities, and the broader transition to clean energy. In 2024, Merchant Energy concluded a significant investment round with Platform Investment Partners and Khululu Capital, strengthening our position as a credible counterparty in the evolving energy landscape.
