Merit Stocks is a research house with a focus on delivery of high-conviction excess return generating investment opportunities to our clients. More broadly, we seek to deliver fundamentally based, value-oriented (contrarian) and price competitive research resulting in highly differentiated investment strategies, thereby giving sophisticated investors a better chance of outperforming their chosen performance targets. Our research exploits systematic biases and unique mispricing of securities in the marketplace leading to successful active investment strategies. In order for active strategies to deliver strong returns and beat investment benchmarks, they must necessarily be different than a passive index. Being different from a passive index or benchmark, also implies that performance will deviate sometimes significantly from investment targets. Especially negative performance is apt to cause cognitive dissonance and pose significant challenge to the will of even the most battle-hardened active investors.
