Mescal-J6 Fire District

Established by the Cochise County Board of Supervisors on January 13, 2009, assuming responsibility for the area previously served by the Mescal-J6 Volunteer Fire Department, a subscription based fire protection organization since 1981. The district operates as a combination department, staffed by both career and reserve firefighters, proudly serving the communities of Mescal, J Six Ranch, Empire, Salcido Acres, as well as the Skyline, Titan Road, and Dark Star communities The district spans approximately 21 miles across both Cochise and Pima counties and provides services to about 1,700 residents. Our response area includes 11 miles of Interstate 10, thirteen miles of Union Pacific Railroad tracks, two high-pressure natural gas pipelines, and a significant wildland-urban interface. Mescal-J6 Fire District is governed by a five-member, non-partisan Board elected at large by district voters. The Board is responsible for establishing policy, setting tax rates, approving the annual budget, and appointing the Fire Chief. Our mission is to protect life and property while enhancing the well-being of those we serve through strength, integrity, and relentless commitment.
