MetaCure, member of the Hobart Group companies, aims to provide a better way to manage type 2 diabetes, focusing on the impact on the day-to-day lives of patients. MetaCure develops, produces and sells the DIAMOND therapy, an alternative to insulin, delivered by a proprietary implantable device system. DIAMOND is intended to treat type 2 diabetes in obese patients who are refractory to oral medication. The safety and efficacy of the DIAMOND therapy has been validated in clinical trials encompassing over 300 patients, which demonstrated it is as effective as insulin treatment while avoiding most of the associated side effects and avoiding the inconvenience of frequent blood tests and injections. DIAMOND is delivered by a pacemaker-like device implanted in the abdomen to deliver gentle electrical signals to the stomach when eating, which improves glycemic control and causes weight loss.
