Midcity Mercado is a family-operated monthly marketplace highlighting POC small businesses located in the parking lot between the family’s two businesses (Mariscos Maria’s and Persona the Shop) in the West Adams District of Los Angeles. The founder, Jasmine Maldonado, is a community advocate of the West Adams district who has spent the past few years working to build local economies for BIPOC. Her efforts focus on anti-displacement through entrepreneurship and building a safe space for POC youth in her community. Since October 2020, Midcity Mercado has proudly served as a thriving hub for more than 300+ local businesses. Its organic growth has attracted an audience of over 500 attendees per event driven by its digital presence of over 50K followers.
