Founder Steve Miles started Miles Excavating in 1983 when he traded in one kind of horsepower for another. The former rodeo competitor sold his beloved quarter horse to buy his first back-hoe, and a career in excavating was born. Many back-hoes later, Miles Excavating has grown to a 160-employee firm, with a modern fleet of equipment, and a history of successful projects that exceed client expectations time after time, yet Steve Miles’ hands-on involvement in the firm has not changed. He is still actively engaged in every project, serving as quality assurance manager, providing project estimates, meeting regularly with superintendents, overseeing job sites, and working in the trenches.
