But refrigerant leaks during operation and failure of conventional compressor-based technologies disproportionally contribute to GHG emissions. Transitioning to a refrigerant-free society is the most impactful single action to reduce emissions and an opportunity to move beyond mechanical systems, which are prone to wear and noise. At MIMiC, we are developing a resilient, cost-effective, and carbon-friendly heat pump using solid-state technology.
