Mental ill health is the single largest cause of disability in the UK, contributing up to 22.8% of the total burden, compared to 15.9% for cancer and 16.2% for cardiovascular disease. Children requiring mental health support is rising faster than our NHS can manage, with latest reports highlighting 1 in 6 (16%) children aged 5 to 16 years in the UK have a probable mental health disorder. From the 1 in 6, only 1 in 3 go on to access support. This equates to over children in North Tyneside. We are facing a rising mental health crisis. Mindstars support the children of North Tyneside, together with their parents and guardians, delivering a full family approach. We support their mental health and wellbeing, removing the barriers that poverty and poor mental health brings. We know that proactive early education in wellbeing is highly effective in reducing the long-term effects of mental health issues in adulthood. We believe taking a preventative approach and teaching children how to manage their emotional wellbeing from an early age is essential. From removing barriers that stop children from accessing wellbeing support provisions and assisting NHS Services to reduce the strain on increasing waiting lists, we create a safe space for children to express themselves and feel empowered.
