Mineke Foundation

Mineke Foundation works in Liberia. Our goal is to help people - especially young people and women - to become economically self-reliant. We focus on education and entrepreneurship and have three projects: Damiefa School offers affordable private education from nursery through secondary school. The national Liberian curriculum is complemented by an Art education programme developed by Dutch and American educators and Liberia Reads, a Reading comprehension programme developed for Liberia by American and Liberian educators. Our Women's Club combines entrepreneurship and gender. Our entrepreneurship programme includes skills & business training, coaching, micro-loans and a savings scheme. Our gender programme addresses topics like (reproductive) health, women's rights, leadership and gender-based violence. It also offers social activities to build community. Our Resource Center (in development) is a multipurpose facility with a small library, computer lab and play area. It currently has 2 main user groups: Damiefa School students and youth aged 15 - 30. Mineke Foundation is an award-winning NGO known for its quality and professionalism. We are a fully-accredited Liberian NGO, vocational training institute and private school. A small, committed and motivated local team manages our work in Liberia. Our work is supported by a team of remote international volunteers who help with fundraising, social media & communication and knowledge transfer. Both teams work closely together. Mineke Foundation was founded in 2009 by Tonia Dabwe to build on the work her Liberian father and Dutch mother started in Liberia in the late 1960s. The NGO is named after Tonia's mother who was abducted by Charles Taylor's NPFL rebels during the Liberian civil war. She remains missing.
