every girl: informed, inspired, connected, empowered The Department of Education spoke to pupils aged 14-15 and uncovered that more than 1 in 3 teen girls suffer from anxiety or depression. Many pupils said that pressure to achieve was hitting their self-confidence, with many not feeling in control of their own futures. It’s likely that this is one of the reasons why women are still more likely to be in low-paid and low-skilled jobs despite performing better in education than boys. We're levelling the playing field so that girls from all backgrounds, including those in social mobility cold spots and those without connected parents, can see what they can be. The Modern Muse mobile platform is a free resource. It inspires girls, aged eleven plus, to consider their subject choices and empowers them to make more informed career decisions. It features over female role models (Muses) working in a wide variety of jobs, many in STEM and connects young women to career opportunities in Modern Muse partner organisations. “You get to learn from the Muses’ experiences, helping them pave a way for you through the rather scary stage of having to stand independently in the world as a young adult.” GCSE Student Led by girls, for girls they will further develop the Modern Muse online platform and drive campaigns to create awareness, and engage more girls.
