Mohamed Mounir

Singer Mohamed Mounir was born on October 10, 1958 in the southern Egyptian city of Aswan. An iconic singer with Nubian origins; his pop-oriented music has its roots in the various genres of traditional Egyptian, Nubian and Arabian, as well as African reggae music. Over a music and film career spanning over 30 years, Mounir reached international status early in his career, performing in festivals in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the United States, sharing the stage and collaborating with luminaries of world music including Cheb Khaled, Youssou N'dour, Salif Keita and Angelique Kidjo.
