Mountain Road School

Mountain Road School is a small rural progressive independent school near New Lebanon, NY, offering a full- or partial-day Preschool program (ages 3-5), a full- or partial-day Kindergarten, and Grades 1-8. The class configurations vary from year to year depending on enrollment. Small class sizes and multi-age groupings form the foundation of the school’s educational philosophy. Upon that foundation, Mountain Road builds a community that embodies a culture of compassion, inspires critical and creative thinking, learns and teaches responsively through emergent curriculum, develops resilience by cultivating a clear and steady approach to challenges, and nourishes the reciprocity between the human and natural worlds. Located just outside New Lebanon on 20 beautiful acres of fields and woods along the Kinderhook Creek, Mountain Road School was founded in 1975 and has operated under the auspices of the New Lebanon Public School District since 1983. It was incorporated on April 29, 1997, under a New York State charter and is operated by a board of directors.
