Michael Ratcliffe was one of the first people in Queensland to become an Authorised Representative. Colonial Funds Ltd authorised Michael in 1986 and since then has enjoying the challenges and rewards of running his own Financial Planning practice and providing advice to clients. As part of providing an overall service to clients Michael achieved his Diploma of Financial Services (Finance/Mortgage Brokering Management in 2012 and opened a Mortgage arm within MRFS. He was one of the first Brokers to introduce HSBC to the mortgage market in Cairns for his clients. It is not uncommon for people to make a large financial step in buying their first home or their first investment property, so having a knowledgeable broker on their side helps with clarity on the better options that are available. Mortgage/Finance brokers work for their clients and not for the lenders and that allows a greater range of options to achieve better outcomes. Michael retired from Financial Planning in 2021 to help his wife with her Cancer Battle which unfortunately was lost in 2025. He now is assisting other Mortgage/Finance brokers deliver better outcomes for their clients. He believes in helping my clients build a comprehensive program to increase their personal wealth. He achieve this by striving to provide quality mortgage/finance advice, personalised service and practical ideas to deliver superior solutions that my clients can easily understand. Introducing Jon Rowe I got into Mortgage Broking because of the trouble that I had getting a loan as a small business. In the end, the lender that I was dealing with said “We dont understand your business, so we are only going to use your partner’s income.” Thus we could not get the loan for our home. What I didnt know then, is that there are lenders out there that can help small business. A broker who understands business is your best bet. I’ve been in businesses big and small since 1997 and running my own small businesses since 2008.
