I am Shahla Rushworth, a passionate marketer and a passionate mum. Wanting to be the best at both marketing and motherhood, led me to the decision to step out of the corporate office and into the exciting world of freelancing! I have worked in marketing for over 20 years and have seen a lot and learnt a lot! I am still very committed to learning a lot, especially in the fast changing world we live in. My marketing training was at Unilever, where I worked for 12 years, across all elements of the mix, on brands such as Persil, Surf, Dove, Timotei, Sunsilk, Sure and Lynx. Post a move to the seaside to bring up a family, I have worked in local, medium sized businesses, across new categories and with fast growing brands like femfresh to more established brands like Arm & Hammer, Pearl Drops and Scalextric. More recently I have been working as a freelancer with smaller start up businesses in the education, training and health fields. The principles of marketing are applicable to all types of brands and businesses. It's important to make sure your brand positioning - who are you, what do you stand for, who are you targeting, what makes you better etc.is defined. It is also important to define Business, Marketing and Communication Objectives, with clear KPIs, before a plan is formulated. I am a stickler for solid upfront thinking! When you know who you are and what you want, the creativity can be unleashed. I love this bit!
