Murality

The aim of Murality is to create opportunities for new and established artists from around the world, make a tourist space within Downtown Vancouver as well as enhance the exchange of art and ideas across borders. Murality has a mandate to make changes that will enhance the lives of people and neighbourhoods. Vancouver's latest art society was born in the heart of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, an urban neighbourhood that could do with a splash of colour. Murality founder, Amalia Liapis, refers to the project as a cocktail of entrepreneurial desires, community pride and human compassion. At 161 East Pender Street stands an empty 160 by 50 foot wall: A perfect location for a mural. This bare wall has since been transformed with the amazing work of Eyoalha Baker, a local artist and founder of Jump for Joy! This vibrant and awe-inspiring masterpiece has brought the community together from the get-go with its installation and continually with each passerby. This exhilarating project goes above and beyond its intended purpose of bringing joy and vitality in an area lacking in such.
