Musarc

Founded in 2008, Musarc is an organization actively involved in exploring architecture and music. Musarc is a not-for-profit organisation based at and affiliated with the London Metropolitan University. Our plan is to both continue as an independent organisation as well as to make a bid to become an accredited research unit at the university. Our aim is to explore practical as well as abstract and poetic ways in which an engagement with sound, music and acoustics can contribute to the way we perceive, represent and construct the built environment. This takes place through a variety of projects and events such as lectures, exhibitions, performances, artist commissions and summer schools. Based in an academic environment, Musarc actively pursues ways to create a platform where people can meet with new ideas and provides a forum for discussion. Being part of a school of architectural studies means that it works in a specific context; the question of how sound, music and space interact is central to Musarc’s work.
