Nanocool Project Fp7

NanoCOOL is a research project that aims to develop An Energy Efficient Air Conditioning system with Temperature and Humidity independent controls based on the combination of liquid Desiccants Cycle with an adapted conventional air cooling system. The research has received funding from the European Community's 7th Framework Programme under grant agreement No. FP7-2012-NMP-ENV-ENERGY-ICT-EeB – 314701. The project is expected to deliver the first functioning prototype at the beginning 2015. Coordinator of the project is TECNALIA, the leading private research and technology entity in Spain and the fifth largest in Europe. TECNALIA has participated in several research projects related to nanoCOOL. Its expertise is combined both in Cooling Devices and Liquid Desiccants. PROJECT GOALS: To develop an innovative hybrid liquid desiccant cooling system (LHDS) which is able to- cost-effectively operated both in residential and commercial buildings - simultaneously use the evaporative cooling heat and condensation heat of a compression-type refrigerator - waste heat from the condenser is utilized for regeneration of the desiccants - no external heat sources are used for regeneration - while the primary function is dehumidification and cooling, the technology also cleans air - reaches its temperature and humidity targets more rapidly and with far less energy than other equipment EXPECTED BENEFITS- Whole home humidification - Mold and mildew prevention - Improves Indoor Air Quality - Germicidal protection - Energy Savings - No over-cooling of air in treated space - Environmentally friendly, saves electricity and reduces use of refrigerant gas - Reduces Sick Building Syndrome - Solves problem of condensate water removal The project comprises 12 partners: Tecnalia (ES, coordinator) SGL Carbon (DE) Airlan (ES) URV (ES) DAPP (IT) POLITO (IT) RIDAN (PL) STAM (IT) FENIX (CZ) TECHNION (IL) DECSA (IT) TBTC (TW)
