My absolute favorite quote is “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” by Wayne Gretzky. I truly try to live by that mantra each day, always pushing myself to take a chance and just go for it, despite the unknowns. This mentality drove me to leave the corporate world and go out on my own, which is my current role as Independent Consultant and Founder at Narrative Insights Consulting. Prior to consulting, I spent over 20 years client-side at leading brands in the CPG and restaurant industries, where I led consumer insights teams and successfully uncovered ground-breaking insights through product innovation, advertising development, brand positioning and consumer segmentation research. During my journey, I learned some important skills such as how to build a best-in-class research toolkit from the ground up, ways to effectively present to executives that drive engagement, and the art of going from a pile of numbers to telling an actionable story. I now use that expertise as a consultant to bring consumers into the conversation at leading brands through all forms of research, whether it’s concept, copy, product or menu innovation testing, or digging deeper into understanding your consumers, competitors, or the broader marketplace. I also work with research agencies by providing coaching to sales/customer success teams on how to effectively sell in to client-side insights teams, create and present content for them to help sell their product via webinars, podcasts or conference presentations, and uncover deeper client understanding through 1:1 sessions and customer advisory boards. When I’m not working, I’m spending my time traveling to copious amounts of kids’ sports tournaments, making a concerted effort to tap into my creative side by honing my drawing skills, or carving back roads on my motorcycle.
